Course Description
Become a valued part of the education system as a Teacher’s Aide, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker assisting children with special needs, with the CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support .
What you'll learn
The Certificate III will fully prepare you for a career in the classroom, helping teachers to educate, support and inspire students.
This online education support course will give you the expertise to communicate and work collaboratively with teachers and colleagues, as well as to support the holistic wellbeing, health and safety of all students.
You will master the skills that you need to effectively help children learn and develop numeracy, literacy and oral language skills.
During your studies you will learn how to help children and teens with behavioural issues, and how to fully support and assist those with special learning needs.
You will become adept at implementing planned education programs in classroom settings, as well as helping with the organisation and management of classrooms and community education centres.
The Certificate III lets you choose what you would like to specialise in as a Teacher’s Aide with a choice of elective subjects, some of which include: small group learning, supporting ESL students, and working with families to provide appropriate care for children.

You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:
A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.
Minimum age
You will need to be at least 18 years old.
English
This course involves reading and undertaking a range of written assessments, as well as engaging in online forums and discussions. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires the successful completion of English to Year 10 level.
If you haven't successfully completed English at Year 10 level, you can demonstrate equivalency through one of the following:
Successful completion of a Nationally Recognised Training qualification at Certificate II level or higher; or
2 years relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication

To successfully complete this course, you will require basic computing skills. This includes:
Creating, saving and editing Microsoft Office documents.
Accessing and searching the internet.
Downloading and saving documents from websites.
Uploading documents through websites.
Participating in online discussions.
Compressing image files.
Connecting digital cameras and downloading and storing images.
Audio visual requirements
You will need access to software to view online videos and images. Software such as Adobe Reader, Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Viewer etc. are available as a free download from the internet.
You'll also need access to a digital video recording device and/or digital camera and associated software to save and upload video and image files to OpenSpace. Many mobile phones and smart phones include this technology.
Physical requirements
Students will need to be reasonably physically fit to undertake the work placement as the tasks and activities associated with the work placement may involve manual lifting and other physical activities.

Office equipment and resources including telephone, photocopier, scanner and printer.

Anna Hannouche is the Education Manager for the School of Childhood Education and has been with Open Colleges since 2014. Anna holds a Bachelor of Education/Arts majoring in Theology and History. Before Open Colleges, Anna was casual teaching at a VET school where her love for VET courses grew as she witnessed students develop practical skills to assist them in the workplace. Anna is passionate about Education and finds it rewarding to pass on her extensive knowledge to her team to support students in an Education Support and Early Childhood setting.
Erika Russell
Erika has worked in the education industry for over 15 years in a wide range of areas including early childhood education, primary and secondary schooling. She has taught in both remote and metropolitan schools, even teaching abroad for several years.
Erika holds a Bachelor of Science, Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment.
Over the past 10 years Erika has worked in the VET sector both in the classroom and online. She enjoys sharing her industry knowledge and experiences with students.
Mathew Curtis
Mathew has almost 30 years’ experience in education teaching a plethora of subjects from primary school to university and back again. In all he would have taught well over 150 different subjects in range of courses and programs. Over time, Mathew has developed levels of expertise in mainstream, indigenous and online education, having taught in government and non-government institutions across three states. He has held leadership positions of Assistant Principal and Acting Principal, Leading Vocational Teacher and Executive Teacher 2. Mathew holds a range of qualifications that include a master’s degree in Indigenous studies, a graduate diploma of education, an undergraduate degree, a diploma and several certificates including qualifications in training and assessing.

The course contains a minimum of 120 hours of work placement
Your work placement will need to be conducted in an approved school setting in Australia.
Although we encourage you to begin to think about work placement when you begin your studies, your work placement starts in Module 9. This allows you to develop all the skills and knowledge you will need to make a positive contribution to the classroom. In Module 9 you’ll begin to put your new skills into practice.
You will be responsible for the costs of any travel, accommodation, statutory checks or other requirements related to your work placement.
