What you’ll learn in this course

This course runs for 5 weeks, including an 80-hour practical work placement. Training is delivered through face-to-face sessions 4 days per week over 3 weeks. You’ll be assessed through a mix of case studies, logbooks and portfolios, practical skills assessments, quizzes and multiple-choice questions, role plays, third-party observations, and written assignments.

What are the entry requirements for the AF008 Community Support Skill Set?

Entry Requirements: 
The minimum entry requirements for this course are as follows: 

  • Be 16 years of age or over and not currently in school 
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or have a permanent humanitarian visa or certain temporary visas with study rights 
  • Reside in Western Australia for the duration of your course 
  • Complete an online assessment to test your Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills against the standard levels of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). Assessments are state based.  

Course Requirements:  

All applicants must be able to provide an unencumbered National Police Clearance to meet practical work placement requirements.

How do I apply?

Follow these steps to complete your enrolment at School of Health: 

  • Submit an Enquiry: Once you make an enquiry, you’ll receive an email with course information and a link to the enrolment form. 
  • Complete the Enrolment Form: Fill out the form and upload/email the required entry documents. 
  • Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) Assessment: You’ll be invited to complete either a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment or a Reading, Numeracy, and Writing (RNW) assessment. These may be required to complete on campus and may affect your eligibility for state-based funding. 
  • Letter of Offer: Upon successful completion of your application and CSPA, you will receive a Letter of Offer (LOO), with your agreement, course information, important documents, and any related fee and funding information. 
  • Confirm Your Enrolment: To accept, either return the signed agreement and any additional documents listed in your LOO, or click to accept on the digital acceptance button and submit. 
  • Final Confirmation: Once everything is complete, you’ll receive your Confirmation of Course Commencement email, inclusive of start dates.  

Do I have to organise my own practical work placements or is this something the school organises for me?

The School organises all placements through their partnered host facilities. Students do not organise their own placements.   

Request and special considerations can be made to the placements team to be factored in for your placement locations and rostered times.
