Course Description

This course is perfect for people with no experience in sales but would like to kick start a career in the retail Industry. You will build your knowledge from the ground up, equipping yourself with a solid set of entry level skills that you can use to launch your career when you graduate.

  • This course will take you from beginner to professional retail worker in a maximum of 12-months. You will get a solid education in the fundamentals of retail services and will graduate job ready.

Entry Requirements

There are no mandated education entry requirements for this qualification as per the SIR Retail Services Training Package.

It is recommended that students be 18 years of age to enrol in this course.

It is also recommended that students

  • Have language, literacy and numeracy skills that ensure the ability to read and comprehend technical terms and communicate effectively through email. These skills are equivalent to those that would be required to successfully complete year 10.
  • Have access to a modern computer with high-speed internet.
  • Have access to Microsoft office or equivalent. ·
  • Have basic computing skills, including the ability to make a short video.

Minimum age

You will need to be at least 18 years old.

Physical Requirements

You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness, as the role may involve a variety of physical tasks, such as spending a considerable amount of time standing, walking as well as moving stock within the retail premises.

Anthony is a licensed real estate agent with more than 20 years’ experience in the industry. He has also worked as a sales agent, buyers’ agent and property manager. His love for retail sector motivates him to work in retail industry. He has gathered a vast array of skills, experience and knowledge. 

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Diploma of Financial Services, and Certificate IV in Property Services, Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking, CIV in Business Administration and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. 

As an educator Anthony has over 5 years’ experience in a range of face to face and online courses across Real Estate, Business and Retail management. Anthony is passionate about training and assisting students to achieve their goals to build opportunities for their future. 

Work Placement

The course contains a minimum of 120 hours of work placement

Work placement hours can be done part time or as a block, depending on the host organisation's requirements and availability.

You will not achieve the following units of competency until you have completed your work placement hours:

  • SIRXIND002 Organise and maintain the store environment
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • SIRXCOM002 Work effectively in a team
  • SIRXIND001 Work effectively in a service environment

  • SIRXSLS001 Sell to the retail customer

You will need to undertake your work placement in an organisation involved in providing retail services to customers such as Supermarkets, Grocery Stores, Department Stores or Retail Stores. The specific requirements of the workplace are outlined in the Workplace Assessment Guide which can be found in OpenSpaceX.

Open Colleges will need to ascertain whether the workplace you have chosen is appropriate before you commence your work placement hours.

Immunisations

Please note that your host organisation may require you to provide an up-to-date immunisation history to verify current and active immunisations prior to the commencement of your work placement. Open Colleges has no control over this requirement, so if you are unable to provide this, you will need to discuss this with your intended Host Organisation.

It should also be noted that some immunisations, such as Hepatitis B, need multiple injections to be administered over a specific time period before you are deemed immune. It is important that you consult with your GP as soon as possible to avoid delays in starting your work placement.
