If you want to join the exciting world of marketing, we have some good news for you. We recently chatted to Keely Park, a Marketing Manager from Modscape, (one of Australia’s leading modular home builders), to get the inside scoop.

Want more good news? Overall employment of advertising, promotions, and marketing managers is projected to grow 10 percent from 2021 to 2031, faster than the average for all occupations.

Hi, Keely! Can you tell me a bit about what your daily tasks are?

Social media management, keeping up to date on industry events/news, looking for opportunities for coverage, engaging with our audience, writing content, looking for opportunities to improve our client journey or industry opportunities!

What’s the best part about your job?

Being involved in so many different aspects of the business. I get to know what’s going on, being involved in all facets. I get to work with passionate and visionary leaders who know what they do inside and out, love what they do, but are open to my creative input and spin.

What drew you to a career in Marketing?

I love that marketing is a principle/methodology that can be applied to any industry. Of course, there are benefits to knowing your industry well, but as long as I know my product/offering and my target market, I can build a strategy around that, no matter what I’m trying to sell or to who! Learning early on in my career that the purpose of marketing is to help people. Whether that’s to find what they need, explore more of what they love, we can help them!

What’s been your career highlight?

Absolutely landing my current job! It’s just felt like the right fit from the get-go, the people are amazing, and our work is incredible. It’s so exciting learning about a company and finding out what makes it special.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Keeping up with the constant digital changes and trends. I’m forever googling what changes Instagram has made this week! I still remember the days when your feed would display in the times people posted, now it’s a battle against the algorithm!

What surprised you the most about working in Marketing?

It’s not all parties and glam! Even when you’re at the parties, you’re constantly working. It’s a lot more research and data driven, it’s definitely a job where you can never stop learning, and self-education is so important.

What kind of attributes do you need?

I think you need to be confident in your abilities, a creative and lateral thinker, unafraid to fail and passionate about making change and seeing results.

How many hours do you work a week?

40 hours/week.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start a career in Marketing?

Just do it! Maybe do some work experience and consult people you know who are already in the industry about it to make sure it’s the right career for you. Don’t get discouraged if the first job isn’t the right one for you, finding a company aligned with you and everything will fall into place.

If you’re a team player and enjoy bringing a story to life, have an interest in media and digital content, then a career in marketing could be the perfect choice for you. Check out our Marketing courses here.
