/ Melbourne Polytechnic TAFE Courses and Campus Information

Melbourne Polytechnic has been providing education for over 100 years. It has changed through the years, from Collingwood Tech in the early 1910’s, to Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT). It was only recently renamed as Melbourne Polytechnic and provides Technical and Further Education (TAFE) courses in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

Melbourne Polytechnic has become the largest provider of technical education in the north of Melbourne and sees over 65,000 students enrol each year. Qualifications can range from Certificate to Diploma level. Study can take place across the Institutes 9 campuses, which are located at Prahran, Northern Lodge Training Centre at Eden Park, Fairfield, Heidelberg, Northern AMEP Centre at Broadmeadows, Preston, Ararat Training Centre, Collingwood and Epping.

Key study areas include Agriculture, Environment and Science, Horticulture, Beauty, Education, Hospitality, Human Services, Business, Legal, Technology, Building, Engineering, Creative Industries, Language Skills and Pathways.

Open Colleges is not affiliated with Melbourne Polytechnic. This page is an information page only.

Open Colleges has a partnership with North Coast TAFE to deliver a series of TAFE courses in an online format.

Studying online vs. studying on campus

If you do not wish to study on campus, or if you are located in an area with limited or no access to TAFE courses, you may wish to consider online study. With Open Colleges’ unique model – you can study a select number of TAFE courses with Open Colleges’ trademark learning benefits:

  • Supportive: Our dedicated team of student support staff are on hand to help you achieve your goals from start to finish.
  • Affordable: Choose a payment method that suits your needs: monthly, fortnightly or weekly payment plans.
  • Flexible: Study when you can, no due dates, no start times. Structure your study around your current commitments.
