Working under the supervision of a qualified speech pathologist, speech pathology assistants carry out a range of tasks to help clients overcome speech, understanding and swallowing difficulties caused by conditions such as stuttering, autism, cleft palate, Down syndrome and stroke.

You'll begin with an orientation to the allied health sector, including medical terminology and how to recognise healthy body systems. As you move through the course you'll study the units selected by industry for the speech pathology assistance specialisation, including support with augmentative and alternative communication methods and assistance in dysphagia management.

Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

The HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance is a nationally recognised qualification and could enable you to find entry-level work as an assistant in nursing or nursing support worker.

As a nursing assistant you’ll provide assistance to clients according to their care plan and under the supervision of a health professional. You’ll learn how to perform patient observations, how to work effectively with culturally diverse clients and how to use medical terminology. After completing this course you could work in aged care facilities, hospitals, clinics, private medical practices and home and community care services.

This course is designed for people who are passionate about health and well-being, who want a career focusing on fitness while instructing others. Learn to conduct fitness appraisals, develop programs, use fitness equipment safely, and advise clients on fitness and nutrition matters.

Practical skills are gained through a work placement which you will do in a gym or other appropriate workplace. We can advise you on how to find a suitable work placement in your area. Alternatively, you could take advantage of our industry Assessment Centre or Workplace Assessment Centre in Sydney.
