About the position

Open Colleges is looking for a Junior Front End Developer to join our vibrant and growing development team who sit within the wider Marketing team. The role requires strong front-end ability utilising HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Although the role initially focusses on front end development, training will be provided which will also see you branch off into back end applications and tasks. Therefore, being open to back end development is also regarded as a pre-requisite and a career path you envision for yourself.

From a design and usability perspective, experience in designing websites, landing-pages and emails is important. Likewise designing and optimising for mobile devices is also a prerequisite. You will be customer focused and encouraged to provide the best user experience with your output.

With several websites and a portfolio of over 90 courses there is always the need for producing online content and applications\s.

A typical day in the role may look like:

  • Coding promotional landing pages, EDM’s and the deployment of these assets.
  • Maintaining, fixing bugs and updating Open Colleges websites.
  • Being involved in the execution of A/B tests.
  • Being involved in technical meetings as the development team tackles larger projects.
  • Being mentored in best practice and exposure to back end development.

This position would best suit a junior web developer with experience in either a web agency environment or client-side role. Key Responsibilities:

  • Website Development and formatting of new and existing Open Colleges websites
  • Coding online campaigns including eDMs, landing pages and working with the marketing team in the rollout of microsites.
  • Maintenance and updating of existing websites

Key Attributes & Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years front end coding
  • Skilled in standards compliant, cross-browser compatible HTML and CSS coding.
  • Working knowledge of Javascript/JQuery focusing on customization and implementation.
  • Email (eDM) coding experience
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Understanding of UI design for various platforms including tablet and mobile
  • Open to learning with a real hunger to develop your programming skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with WordPress, Django or similar PHP\Python based CMSs.Interest in learning front end frameworks such as Angular, React.
  • Experience with implementing and optimising responsive designs for websites
  • Optimize 360, A/B testing
  • Exposure to Google analytics
  • Basic knowledge of SEO
  • Experience of basic Photoshop functions.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications in Information Technology
