About the position

The Assessor – Automotive is a key educational position within Open Colleges and is responsible for conducting of assessments for our NEW Automotive Course and provision of high quality and timely assessment feedback to learners.

The Assessor also provides input into quality review processes including Learning and Assessment Strategy (LAS) and Assessment Validation and Moderation.

In this role, you will undertake the following core functions:

  • Grade assessments in accordance with the Education Service Standards
  • Provide constructive feedback to learners in accordance with the Policies and Procedures
  • Participate in Assessment Validation and Moderation
  • Complete Professional Development requirements in line with an annual professional development schedule

To be successful in this role, you will have the following key attributes and skills:

  • Assessment of vocational competence
  • Current industry skills in course area, (Automovite Maintenance and/or Mechanical Engineering)
  • Student (customer) service, teaching and mentoring
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to confidently use technology and systems
  • Time management
  • Understanding how learners interact and engage in a digital, multi-screen environment

Experience in:

  • Conduct of assessment within the course area (ideally in an online or distance learning environment)
  • Professional experience in the course area
  • Student support or customer service related field

Educational Qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30616) or higher
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)
  • Recent experience working in the Motor Vehicle repair sector ideally in a Supervisory/Lead Technician role ­-– 3+ years’ experience (essential)
  • Recent experience working in distance, flexible or on line learning  (desired) or in a facet to face learning environment ie. TAFE or University
