Effective education is all about innovation. It’s about discovering new ways to teach and reinforce old lessons. Not to mention, the need to be responsive to  evolving  times, whereby today’s learners have different needs and expectations.

Enter technology…

Online education and mobile learning are two progressive teaching mediums that are being integrated by instructors everywhere, at high school and college levels, to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Although they are perhaps a little different in format, online education and mobile learning, when examined further, have several commonalities.

Here are a few to consider:

  • Online education and mobile learning both provide wide access to students globally. Whether students are situated in Texas or Timbuktu, they can stay “connected” and informed, according to their needs.
  • Mobile learning and online education allow students to interact and become engaged in the learning process, whether by smart phones or “virtual” bulletin boards.
  • They both offer convenience. Students can learn in their own environments, and also dismiss with heavy textbooks and other materials often associated with completing assignments and taking tests.
  • Online education and mobile learning both are affordable.  Many times they are comparatively cheaper than traditional classes and methodologies.

In a recent article at Edudemic the benefits to mobile learning are explored along with its various applications for today’s teachers.

And though it may seem initially challenging for some, there is a degree of validity to the expression, “Try it, you might like it.”

How do you feel about mobile learning?  Have you ever tried it?
