Course Description

alffie's CHC33015 - Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) reflects the role of Disability Support Workers in community and residential settings who follow individualised plans to provide person-centred support. Support is provided to people  who are living with a disability, including elderly people who are no longer able to perform certain tasks due to age.

Because the role of a Support Worker involves working very closely with clients, it’s a role that requires compassion, patience, discretion and judgement. It’s important for Support Workers to have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge; as well as theoretical knowledge of how to best provide person-centred support.  In this course, you’ll learn all the necessary skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality care.

Entry Requirements

It is a government requirement that all students undertaking Nationally Recognised Training in Australia have a unique student identifier (USI). To begin this course, students will need a USI.

In addition to a USI, to begin and complete this course, students will need: 

  • Regular access to a computer, tablet or smartphone (note: there may be activities in the course that need to be completed using a desktop computer rather than a tablet or smartphone) 

  • An email address and regular access to a reliable internet connection 

  • Basic to intermediate computer or digital device skills 

  • To meet certain language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) requirements and pass a short LLN test 

  • The ability to communicate directly with alffie in English 

  • The ability and willingness to study online lesson material, complete online assessment activities, and complete a practical work placement 

  • PDF reader software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat) installed on a computer or the digital device being used to access the course 

  • The ability to understand and follow detailed instructions given verbally or written in English

Work Placement

Work placement offers students the chance to gain valuable practical experience and apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired while gaining their qualification. 

To complete work placement, students will need to spend 120 hours in a real workplace. And, during this time, they will need to demonstrate their ability to complete specific workplace tasks relevant to the qualification they are studying with alffie. Please note, alffie will assist students with the work placement process but cannot guarantee practical placement. 

Due to the legislation and regulations that apply to the Health and Community Services Industry, work placement participants are required to obtain mandatory industry checks including police checks and working with children checks. alffie's Work Placement Team will provide students with information on the mandatory industry checks relevant to each state and territory.
