Open Colleges have partnered with Action for Children and the Aged (ACATA) Australia to offer students of CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) course the opportunity to complete their required work placement hours in 2018 over the course of 2 weeks in Fiji.
You’ll volunteer in Fijian communities by supporting teachers in a special education school, conducting public health screenings, providing support and information workshops to carers and supporting clients participating in community activities.
Next project dates will be from the Monday 15th October to Friday 26th October 2018.

You will be participating as volunteers in Fijian communities in programs coordinated by ACATA Australia. You will be supervised by an approved Workplace Supervisor and assessed during the placement by an Open Colleges Work Place Assessor who will also attend each project

Yes, you may want to extend your stay however you will be responsible for your own accommodation and travel arrangements before or after work placement.
No, this will be organised by ACATA for the period of work placement. You will be placed with a Fijian family who will provide you with homestyle accommodation within 5km of the project location and nutritional Fijian Indian food at a cost of $500 per week. This is payable to ACATA at least six weeks before the commencement of work placement.
No, during work placement you will be part of the student group and accommodation will be organised in Nadi.
No, students are responsible for booking their own flights to and from Fiji.
Your passport must have at least 6 months validity remaining from your return date.
Yes, you will need to arrange your own travel insurance. Open Colleges only covers your insurance whilst you are undertaking work placement activities.
Yes, you will be required to pay the full cost of your accommodation ($1000 for two weeks) and your transfers from Nadi to the project location.
No, this is optional. There is no vaccination certificate required for direct travel from Australia. However, it is best to check with your local doctor. Due to moderate risk or the presence of some diseases, vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid and Influenza are recommended.
Yes, you will complete 120 hours of work placement, providing you successfully complete all requires tasks and activities, including: planning and preparation prior to departure, placement during your stay in Fiji and then review and evaluation of the project upon your return to Australia.
Nadi is one of the largest towns and most visitors’ first stop on Fiji, Nadi is a culturally diverse city of 30,000. Nadi Beach is a wide strand, perfect for lazing in the sun and watching sunsets. Nearby Natadola Beach is Fiji’s most spectacular and is popular for swimming and body surfing. Options for evening trips to nearby beach. Other places to visit in Nadi include Sri Siva Subramaniya, the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere, the Sleeping Giant orchid gardens, mud pool and Waqadra Botanical Gardens.
There are a huge range of tours and activities in close proximity to Nadi, allowing you to explore the nearby Yasawas and Mamanucas. For some adventure try scuba diving, snorkelling or hiking, or head to Denarau Island, which is a bus ride away and experience the glamour of top rated hotels in the world. Nadi has a good selection of shops selling clothing, books, jewellery and souvenirs. This is also a good place to stock up on electronic items such as memory cards for digital cameras.
As a major tourist hub, Nadi offers a wide range of places to eat and drink, no matter your tastes or budget. You’ll find a mix of traditional Fijian, Indian, Chinese and Western dishes, and a vast array of affordable eateries downtown.
Please note: Open Colleges requires a minimum of 12 successful applicants for the project to go ahead. Applicants’ places are not secured until they have received confirmation of the outcome of their Expression of Interest submissions. If maximum spots are filled, students may be asked to postpone application to the next available intake date, if there is one.
