Property Services Student at Open Colleges

Corbijn Leathers

"Carefully think through your options and know exactly what you're getting into. It doesn't hurt to do a bit of research about the course to make sure you’re not jumping into it unprepared or for the wrong reasons."

Corbijn Leathers has been interested in working in real estate since high school and has a self-confessed “obsession with homes”. She is most excited about the fact that every time you list a home you are almost guaranteed it will be a unique and different experience and that there will be the opportunity to work with a wide range of people.

Corbijn moved to Australia just three years ago and now resides in Cairns, Queensland where she is currently studying a Certificate in Property Services (Real Estate) online with Open Colleges.

1 Why did you decide to study real estate? Has real estate always been your dream?

I've always been interested in real estate, I had a "ladder" of options that I wanted to study since high school and real estate was always at the top of that list. So I chose to pursue it. On a related note, interior design is also an interest of mine.

2 Is flexibility while studying important to you? What advice would you offer other students thinking about studying real estate?

YES, flexibility while studying was a very important reason why I chose to study online. I have a number of other commitments that would have made it very difficult for me to study during set hours.

My advice to other students would be to carefully think through your options and know exactly what you're getting into. It doesn't hurt to do a bit of research about the course to make sure you’re not jumping into it unprepared or for the wrong reasons.

3 What are you looking to get out of the course?

I’m looking to build my knowledge on the industry and for the ability to get a foot in the door with the Certificate supporting me.

4 What are your career goals? Are you planning any further study?

It’s still a bit early, but I would also like to study a Business course as well as further myself in the real estate industry once I get there.

5 Tell us a bit about yourself

I am an outdoors type of person; I love to be out and about going to new places and trying new things. Competitive sports interest me the most because I really hate losing!
