Nigel uses his education skills to inspire the next generation

by Jessica Hamilton

By his own account, Nigel Hilton was never an academic in school. He struggled with the learning and needed a bit of extra help, but didn’t always get it.

However, he always knew that if he had someone who believed in him at the time, it would have made all the difference. So, he decided to use his experiences and become an educator to help young kids just like him reach their potential.

“What gets me up in the morning is the possibility to make change.”

Using the skills he learnt from studying the Certificate III in Education Support with Open Colleges, he helps children with their numeracy, literacy and oral language skills, along with giving them support and confidence they need to thrive in the classroom.

“I like to think that I’ve left a legacy behind. Whilst no one might remember who Nigel Hilton was, maybe when they are 20 or 30 and sitting round, someone might say: remember that teacher we had? Yeah, he cared.”
