You’ve spent weeks writing your assessment, you’ve studied, researched, typed it all up, spell checked, you send it in and you get… A WITHHELD!!!
Why? You know the information from back to front. You have searched high and low for information. Well, you’ve probably forgotten one little thing (well, it is kind of important): REFERENCING!
Referencing is acknowledging where you find your resources for your assessment. You need to provide a reference whenever you use someone else’s ideas, words, research or images.
Let’s put it this way; you come up with this amazing idea, one of a kind, totally original and someone claims this information as their own. That’s not fair, is it?
Now, I know you aren’t doing this on purpose. Sometimes people don’t know that they have to reference. Sometimes people don’t know how to reference. And some people think it’s just too time consuming.
Lucky for you, Learning Support take care of our students here at Open Colleges and I have come up with a short video on how to use the super simple Microsoft Word Referencing Tool. All you need are your resources and assessment written on a Microsoft Word document and you are good to go!
I hope you found this video as useful as we do! I know referencing is challenging, but hopefully with this little video, assessment writing has become a little less stressful! (And if not, book in an appointment with Learning Support today!)
A wise woman once said (me): When in doubt, reference! (Holmes, 2015).
