Help the homeless with DineSmart this Christmas

by Amanda Collins

‘Tis the season for friends, fun and family, but also of charity. And if you want to combine all four, you can, thanks to the DineSmart initiative.

In the six weeks leading up to Christmas, restaurants in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide who have signed up to the DineSmart program will ask all diners to throw an extra $2 onto their bill, with all the proceeds going to StreetSmart, a charity which helps the homeless and those at risk.

At present there are 114 restaurants signed up to DineSmart, ranging from relaxed cafes to exclusive eateries.

“During the Christmas period, it’s easy to get caught up in the hubbub, especially in hospitality,” said Gavion Van Staden from the restaurant, Red Spice Road. “StreetSmart is not only an opportunity to raise money for an important cause, it also serves as a timely reminder to everyone we touch about the true meaning of the season,” he added.
