Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology (Mac) LMT50307 (upgrade) (in partnership with the College of Fashion Design)

This course has been developed to offer Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design & Technology LMT41007 graduates a streamlined upgrade to their existing qualification, and provide the skills required to establish a career in fashion design, create well-fitting clothes for themselves and their families or turn their hobby into a small business.

Students who enrol in the upgrade course will study specific units designed to 'top up' their skills to diploma level. These units cover more advanced skills in areas such as concept development, marketing, fashion illustration and garment construction processes, and will enable the student to pursue senior pattern maker and similar positions within the fashion and clothing design industries. The course comes with a CD-ROM and workbook from Telestia, a global leader in learning materials for the fashion industry.

At the successful completion of their course, students will be awarded a nationally recognised Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology (upgrade) LMT50307 under the LMT07 Textiles, Clothing & Footwear Training Package.

Entry requirements

Minimum education

  • Higher School Certificate or equivalent OR
  • relevant qualifications (at Certificate III or above) OR
  • relevant vocational experience.
  • Basic sewing skills would be an advantage.

Minimum age

Minimum age of 16 years. If you are under 18 your application must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Computer requirements

The software provided with this course is designed to run on a Mac only. Students will receive a hard copy of the learning materials by mail, and will need access to a computer and the internet in order to use the OpenSpace online learning platform.

Minimum specifications for the computer are:

  • Microsoft Office 2003 or equivalent and
  • Mac OS X and
  • CD-ROM drive.

Students will also need access to a printer and the following applications:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader and
  • Macromedia Flash player and
  • Java software and
  • Picture manager software for use in conjunction with digital camera.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language and you did not complete the last two years of secondary education in English, you are required to provide evidence of English language competency before enrolling into the course.

  • fabric for their final four garments.
