This is a very female dominated industry with 27.8% of Massage Therapists being male and 72.2% female.

Age Brackets

The most popular age for people working as Massage Therapists is 35-44 years old, with 28.7%. A small percentage (6.1%) of people get into this career path older, aged 55-59. There is also a number of people who enjoy a career as Massage Therapists, with 7% aged 60-64.

Hours Worked

Massage Therapists work an average of 45.6 hours a week which is 4.7 hours higher than the average for all occupations.

Education Level

The majority of Massage Therapists have a Advanced Diploma/Diploma qualification (63.6%) or are at a Bachelor Degree level (20.2%). 100% of people have a Cert III or higher, whilst 0% have a qualification which is Year 12 or lower.

Massage Therapist Duties & Tasks

  • Advise clients on how to improve circulation and decrease muscle tension
  • Assist with healing by applying a variety of massage techniques
  • Interview clients to determine specific needs
  • Massage tissues to relieve pain and prevent future illness
  • Provide clients with techniques on stretching and relaxation
